| Emory Sekaquaptewa, Research Anthropologist (J.D. Arizona 1970)
In Honor of Professor Emory Sekaquaptewa
Professor Sekaquaptewa was more than just one of my mentors and committee members; he was an elder to me. I learned a great deal from him. Professor Sekaquaptewa supported my scholarship, and helped me to organize and refine my ideas. Most importantly, he taught me of the importance of being an ethical scholar. What I learned from Professor Sekaquaptewa, I learned not only during our conversations, I learned by intuitively observing and understanding him. I observed how he approached educating others about his people, how he shared and expressed this knowledge, and how he honored them.
As a Hopi scholar, studying my people, I will maintain the ethics that Professor Sekaquaptewa has shared with me, and I will honor him by continuing the path he has paved for us.
